Took the 1974 D23L Indian on her first trip this past weekend.  What a joy.  Sure there are a few minor details to work out.  She took to the hills with real gusto.

However, when I went to check the Transmission fluid level much to my surprise, there was no dipstick.  Any ideas where I can obtain one?  (Oh, in a pinch, I used the oil dipstick to ensure there was fluid in the Tranny)

She has a 440 engine.

The Dodge Chassis parts manual refers to Part number 2508 311  Indicator oil level for 1974 & 75 -- 727 Transmission . You might have to try a Dodge Truck dealer .

The dipstick tube on my 72 winny’s 727 and my spare 727 tranny are the same length, and the dipsticks are identical, with the same mopar # 2580311. My dodge parts catalog shows this being the same p.n. for all 727 dipsticks from 1969 up to 1977. The ‘full-warm’ mark on the 2580311 is about 21.25 inches down the dipsticks length, from where it seats against the top rim of the dipstick tube. And of course you measure the fluid level while idling in neutral, not in park. I suspect you could get a dipstick from any 727, car or truck 77 or earlier in a junkyard, and it would be the same. Or even get a generic dipstick and make your own FULL mark.
