Engine cranks but won't start

I once had the other side of a ballast resistor burn out.  The engine wouldn't try to fire until I released the key.  Sometimes it would start, most of the time no.  Of course we were on a cross country trip!!  Although it didn't make any sense to me, I changed the resistor since like any old Dodge owner, I carry a spare.  Lo and behold, the engine fired right up and has worked flawlessly since. When I had a chance, I checked the ballast and sure enough, the "start" side was burned out.  Rick
