Can anyone tell me what transmission would have normally been mated to an LA-318-3 engine on a 1974 Winnebago R350 (RM300) chassis?

If you know, what is the correct type fluid for the transmission?

Thanks for your help.

Dick

I am certain it would have been the A727 transmission; no other automatics were used. The fluid is Dextron III. On the dipstick it will tell you to measure it idlling in neutral. If it has been sitting for weeks without being driven, you should move the shifter lever into reverse and drive for a few seconds with the engine running, then measure it in neutral.
The 727 transmission came with different cases. The small block mopars, like the 318 and 360 engines used a slightly smaller diameter connection to the tranny; so those 727s came in a case to fit the 318. The big block mopars had a slightly larger diameter mating surface, and the 727s for those engines had a bell housing to match. The stuff inside the transmission would have been the same though. Its a very good tranny.
