We pulled a little trailer with a small boat on it this past weekend with the motor home and noticed that when we hooked it up to the seven pin plug the lights were dim and the brake lights wouldn't light up right away.  After a few minutes everything was working fine.  Now I would like to know if there is some reason why it seems to take awhile for everything to work properly and is this creating a problem for the electrical system that could damage it in the long run, or is there something that we should do or be looking for? i??

It sounds like a bad ground on the trailer or in the coach plug. I'd suggest running new grounds on both the coach and the trailer. Alot of lighting problems on trailers are usually ground related.
