I managed to fire up the 5kw Onan in our '75 Chieftain for the first time yesterday.  Everything seems to be working fine and it only took a new fuse and battery to get it going.  All the sound insulation around it is still in place, but I was wondering if replacing it with new stuff would help cut down the noise?  Is it something available at the local hardware stores or is it special RV insulation?

Thanks,
Dave

Sound and heat insulation is one of the most convoluted subjects there is.  Seems to be a zillion options.  Yes, there have been improvements in this area over the years, however it is at a cost.  One of the most used options is a kit from JC Whitney http://www.jcwhitney.com/complete-insulation-kits/p2010772.jcwx?filterid=j1.
They also have other items available.  You also have the standard insulation from box stores (ie Lowes) who also carry the reflective bubble rolls.
Google "automotive sound insulation" for even more options.
