It's well worth doing, that's a great tranny.

Clean the gunk out of the pan.

Put in a good quality filter, if Wix makes one use that, or NAPA gold.   Skip the Fram junk.

Make sure the filter goes into the seal correctly, you don't want it sucking air at the o-ring.

Bang the pan flat where the bolts go if that has been over torqued and deformed.  Don't over torque the bolts when you reinstall.  It may have a reusable gasket with it which has a nice o-ring built into it, just clean it and reuse it.   If not, get one.

the pan bolt hole dents are called "dimples".  Definitely need to be flattened or it will cause the seal to bunch between them when you tighten the bolts down.
Don't overtighten the bolts.
Re-torque after 24 hours.

Make SURE the old filter gasket comes out before trying to  put the new one in, If old gasket is left in hole it will most likely crack the filter when the pan is installed.

With the 4L80E trans you often do not have to remove/replace the sleeve that holds the filter up. Remove the old one (straight pull down) and test fit the new one. Should be held in nicely. If it feels overly loose and/or drops with little effort. Then you need to replace the sleeve up in trans.
