Title: Brake Booster Broken
Post by: lylescott719 on June 04, 2014, 11:45 PM
Today we found out that our 71 Brave has a faulty brake booster. Thru a series of trials trying to figure out why the brake light would come on and the mh would only move barely and come to an erupt stop, we have found that the front of the two brake boosters that are located in the middle of the mh is bad. Does anyone know of a company, part#, or rebuild kit to fix or swap out the unit other then trying to find a local company to rebuild? I figure that if one went bad, we may as well change out both units.

Brake Specialty sells rebuild kits for hydravac's too...Usually around 100$

If you call them, ask for Rick. He is the HV gewrew. You need your part # off of the HV, should be a tag on your vacuum diaphragm retainer ring.

Thanks Lego
I spent most of the night doing online research, and found not to many choices. I think I may have found the right one online only at Napa, Part #NBB 519241, but not sure. I sells for $248 with no core? Found info on another thread stating a company in Denver CO. rebuilding them, $178.50, and a semi private individual here in Colorado Springs that will do it for the same price(if he has the parts to do it), but I will need to take it off and bring it to him to look at. Either way I will have to put it on the financial back burner till extra money comes in.

Do you have the an M300 chassis with the Midland Ross boosters: http://dave78chieftain.zxq.net/M300_69-Early.html (http://dave78chieftain.zxq.net/M300_69-Early.html)

or a M375 chassis with Hydro-vac boosters: http://dave78chieftain.zxq.net/M375Late.html (http://dave78chieftain.zxq.net/M375Late.html)

Dave, I believe it is the M300. Its a 71...and from the illustrations its the M300 however the "breather" is located inside the battery box area on the coach.

These guys are the major source for that part (including the 519241 from NAPA)
http://www.cardone.com/Products/Product-Detail?productId=51-9241&make=Dodge%20Trucks&model=M300&year=1971&info=w%2fHydro-Vac%3a%3a%3aHydro-Vac+comes+complete+with+Slave+Cylinder%2c+Master+Cylinder+is+a+separate+unit+not+included.

So you can also search for that version of the P/N for best price.
