Title: John Deere Parking Brake Adjustment
Post by: jmerritt on May 29, 2014, 01:01 PM
I need to adjust the parking brake on my 88 Fleetwood Limited. The Service Manual indicates removal of the driveshaft at the parking brake drum but was wondering has anybody adjusted the parking brake without doing this?

Thx

John

If there is an inspection cover on the backside of the drum, you can adjust. The Mopar style is that way.

Might look for info in a medium duty Ford forum (Ford design).  Drive shaft is removed for steps 4 and 5:

4. Hold the brake actuating lever (C) up to apply brake. With
the shoes against the drum, adjust the clevis (B) until clevis
holes align with eye in cable end.

5. Back off adjustment until brake is just free when drum is
rotated. Clevis pin MUST be in place when this is checked
