SWMBO has declared that we will depart here June 15th, heading back to Missouri. She has further stated that we will NOT leave until we have found a house. (She didn't appreciate my comment that I can find millions of houses in Missouri. I just can't afford to buy any of them.)
Anyway, with my very recent ending of the Alfabago Project, off we'll go.
Oh, and I used GLOSS paint, so don't be on the road anywhere that you'll have the glare of sunlight off of the sides!
We will look for you in the state of Mizzery, yell if we can be of any help. I believe we have a couple of member int the St Louey area.
JD
We will be searching in the southern Jefferson County area. Not too far southern, though. Mother lives in De Soto, so we need to be somehwere close to there, if not in the town.
Taking it slow and easy. We only got to Rawlins, Wyo., today. Settled in about 2 this p.m. No great shakes, no real problems.
AND, climbing the mountains in Wyoming is MUCH easier than in Colorado! :)ThmbUp
We were headed to Gothenburg, Neb., but, since they are under water there, I thought it might not be such a good idea. there's no way Ten-Ton Tillie will float!
So, very short trip today. Staying overnight in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Any where along the Platte River , North or South( Basis I-80) maybe a problem. You could always duck over to ye ole Kansas, as before except the mountains..
This a.m., I checked the news in Lincoln, Neb. Not good. Not good at all. The Platte is up almost everywhere, and the Missouri--through where we would have to travel--isn't any better.
So, we are in Goodland, Kan. We'll spend the night here, and then take it very easy tomorrow and go to Salina for a night.
This will put us behind a day, but it isn't like I have a specific date we haved to be back. W%
Sitting in Salina. Been here a few hours. Just relaxing. Tomorrow--maybe--Oak Grove, Mo. we'll see....
You missed T2 in Hayes. Be safe out there.
I knew there was a member in Hays, but I couldn't recall who it was, nor have a clue how to contact him. Naturally, it came to me--after the fact--that contact could have been initiated through the site. :(
You are getting real familiar with Salina, they make you a KS resident. LOL Y! Have a safe one.
L.J. and I spent the night in Salina on our way back home after picking up Dimples. I love Kansas. I was really surprised at what a beautiful State it was. From desert to flat lands to rolling hills. Nice spot. Sorry we missed J.D. and T2. :)ThmbUp
We've been in Salina so many times this year, when I call the campground for a reservation, they'll ask, "Would you like your usual spot?"
But, now we're at Oak Grove, Mo. Tomorrow p.m. we should be at the end of our trip east--at least for now.
Today was the easiest part of the trip. Just about 200 miles. Tomorrow will be quite a bit longer.
We are now in De Soto, Mo., on the banks of the mighty Joachim...Creek. How long will we be here? Not a clue. So, I'm sitting on the porch at the Arlington Hotel. Enjoying a brew. Enjoying a gentle breeze. I may not get up from here! ???
So far, I've done a lot of drving around. We've looked at so many houses, they're all starting to look the same to me.
Hard telling how long we'll be here at this rate.
Some time in the next week we should be heading west again. Hopefully, for the last time. But, we have to get a guy off his namesake.
I'm told he is not the worst procrastinator in Missouri, but he's way ahead of whoever is second.
Papers are signed. Funds transfer in the a.m., and it's a done deal.
Now tyhe hard part: Moving all that junk to Missouri. ???
Come Thursday, we're off to You Taw again. Gotta get everything ready to move it out.
Spent most of the time here (after finding a house) making minor repairs.
Well, I suppose the trip east is over, since we are now heading west again. For the last time (at least, for "going home").
Couldn't get the females motivated enough, so we didn't even get started until after 9 a.m.
Then when we reached Topeka, FORGET IT! Went through the entire city on the freeway at about 5 mph.
So, we only made it as far as Abilene. And, we don't have the Alfabago this time. :'(
But, we'll be taking some things, not others, loading them up, and heading east again for the last time. (Or until we decide to take a trip west again in the future.)
The Alfa is at our home in Missouri. Wasn't easy getting her in there. Our only access is from the alley, and there's a wall with about a 2-foot drop. So, SWMBO got permission from the guy who owns the property next to us, and I just pulled her through there to our lot.
I have no idea where we'll stop tomorrow, but I sure the devil hope we get out of here before any 9 o'clock!.
What day do U arrive in Gettysburg?
Sob, I wish I had an answer for that. At our current rate of travel, I may not even get to Utah until 2012. Today, we left Abilene, and I was headed to Cheyenne. But, SWMBO freaked, and and I only got to Limon, Colo.
Seems she thought I was nodding off. When, in fact, I was merely checking my eyelids for pinholes.
Then, we made an exit for a quick stop. When I got back on the freeway, I was headed east rather than west. Again, she freaked. I told her it was merely wishful thinking on my part. She wasn't convinced by EITHER truthful ( W%) answer.
Westill have junk to move to Missouri. And, if there is any comparison between getting these two ready to actual MOVE in the a.m., and getting things ready to send east, it could take YEARS!
On our stop Monday evening, I was fed up with how long the trip was taking. We weren't even hauling Ten Ton Tillie!
So, I called up Google Earth and asked directions from Limon, Colo., to Ogden. I knew doing that would give me the distance. It was 634 miles.
So, yesterday, I drove it. All of it. We got in here a little after 6 in the evening (Local time).
SWMBO was, of course, upset with me for doing it, but I'd had enough. I am NOT a "motel person." Two nights in those things was three nights too many. And I have to do the same thing going back. $@!#@!, $@!#@!, and $@!#@!.
We have to be back on the 28th, since there is more paperwork to finalize our house purchase. So we're going to be running around like we're nuts for the next few days getting everything set up.
But, this thread is about ready to die. Only that last trip to make. Hope it goes better than the one coming here.
Um... Ed... you're going in the wrong direction to get to Gettysburg. Turn around now, before it's too late! Once you reach Utah again, the spacial vortex closes and you're window of opportunity will vanish!
Movers have come and gone. On Thursday, we're outta here. I'd leave tomorrow (Tuesday), but SWMBO has a dr's appt on Wednesday.
How do I feel about leaving You Taw (other than as a tourist)? IT'S ABOUT TIME!
So, you're retirement is official?!
Something tells me the girls will never let him completely retire :)rotflmao
:)rotflmao Ho! That's an under statement I'm sure. $@!#@!
My Retirement (such as it is) was official on 11/20/2010. Everything since then has been just setting things up to actually try to enjoy it. And Dave was right. They won't let me fossilize.
Tonight in a Moe Tell. Then tomorrow, off to the world!
The stress finally got to me today, and I blew, but I got over it, and everyone survived, so it could have been worse. :-[
Made it to Laramie, Wyo. That's about it for today. SWMBO has to drive her vehicle, so she can't put in the mileage I usually try to do.
Be safe out there!
Pack your ice bags. It a whole lot hot here in Mizery
Duly noted.
Made it to Goodland, Kan. Not a lot of distsance, but progress. Spending the night here at the KOA (in a cabin, but, at least, it's not a blasted Moe Tell!).
SWMBO has one of those GPS things in her vehicle (that's because she can get lost in a phone booth). I'm willing to bet that, over and over today, the thing kept saying "Recalculating." I used MY shortcuts.
Completely bypassed Cheyennne, Wyo., and Denver. If I hadn't, we'd probably still be somewhere in central Colorado. But, been here long enough to relax a little, have a brew, and fire this thing up.
Pushed it a bit today, and we're in Oak Grove, Mo. But, back to a Moe Tell. :(
Be home sometime tomorrow. And, a friend of ours is going to turn on the a/c about noon so that it will be cool when we get there.
FINALLY! It's almost over! :)clap
Now this thread can die. We arrived about 2 p.m. local.
The friend of ours who was going to turn on the a/c hadn't made it yet. But that's not her fault. I didn't expect to be here until about 6. So, it was screaming hot in the house. And it's gonna take some time to cool it down now.
But, I have the central air going, two window a/cs, and the thing that cuts down the humidity in the joint. That all should work in a few hours.
Now all we have to do is unload my truck, her car, and find out what we brought that we don't really need. W%
WOW! The Hydro Company's going to love you. Glad ya told us though that explains the brown out we just experienced. :)rotflmao
To LJ-TJ: :D
Welcome back to Missouri. :)ThmbUp If you get down Springfield way yell and we'll have a cup of coffee.
