Title: Quadrajet Replacement
Post by: Will_C on July 20, 2021, 11:02 AM
Hello there!  I'm new to this site; I have profited from some of your posts which I have found while doing searches.  I appreciate what you have to share.

I am thinking about replacing the original # 17085212 / M4MEF Q-jet on my '88 Chieftain 28 with a Chevy 454  -- in which I live full time, but don't do too much travelling.

I don't really want to do a rebuild, tho' I do have extensive DIY experience dating back to the late 60's.  Generally speaking, most folks seem to suggest using the same model Q-jet as a replacement. (PS: I want to stick with a Rochester Quadrajet.)

My engine no longer has, shall we say .. a functioning emissions system, does not have an ECM, and has some minor mods -- such as a crossover exhaust.
Code: [Select]
My question is:  Can I put a somewhat older Q-jet on this -- and would it have any advantages over the stock carb?
Any suggestions?   Thanks,  Will C.

Everyone has there prefrences, Cliffs high preformance is in my opinion the most solid reman in the industry. Do not read hot rodder the guy knows quads like no other I have ever seen....ahh and the correct parts for each different carb...It's about 300/500 for a rebuild depending on how worn the old carb is...If you have experience with rebuilding follow Cliff's posts. No BS just a solid working foundation and he understands how Rochesters are built. Ohh and a go-to guy in the hot rodding community.
