Title: 318 vs 413 vs 440 factory options
Post by: AOBrodie on July 18, 2021, 04:05 PM
I'm curious as to how a customer was offered their choice of engines. Mine is a 1972 Brave with a 413-1. I've seen others with a 318 and with a 440. What year was the 440 first available in a Winnebago? Was a 413 and 440 offered in the same year? Maybe a 440 in a 72 is a swap?

Also, were the -1,-2,-3 versions options? What are the differences in the -1, -2, -3?

Customers ordering a rig were offered the option in 73 to have the factory 413-3 or have the 440-3 installed.  The 413 was dropped completely in 74 and the 440 became the standard, factory equipped engine.

There's an existing, in-depth topic on the differences between the 440-1 (car version) and the 440-3 (heavy duty).
