Title: Cut Skylight above front cabin bed in 1972 D18 Brave
Post by: SloTownJ on June 08, 2021, 03:33 PM
1972  D18 Brave - Hi Everyone, I'm interested in installing a skylight in the roof / ceiling above the bed area above the front seats. Does anyone have experience cutting into that area. How is the roof panel constructed in that area? (My Guess: Aluminum roof / 3/4" Plywood / 3/4" Foam / 1/4" Paneling)? Is there anything in there I would need to lookout for? For the skylight I would do a sandwich design where an inner rigid trim would attach to the upper skylight for added strength. Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions. Cheers, Jeremy

Yeah, its thermopanel.  Stay between the joists, there's no wiring there.

See Attachment Pics: The thermo-panel seems like it's more solid in this front area. It's supporting latches that hold the bed in it's stowed position. Anyone know if the thermopanel is solid wood in this front area (aluminum / 1.5" Wood / Ceiling Panel)? What is a good tool to cut the thermo-panel with? (I would guess a jigsaw). Thanks, Jeremy

Red is approximate proposed skylight area... Will be removing non-working dash AC.
