Ii am in the process  of purchasing  a 1972 Brave with a 440. From the previous  owners son it likes GAS. I would guess  that is true.

Yep! Got a 75 21'er 440. She gets 5-8 miles to the gallon. With the wife driving 8-10. If you figure on 5 to the gallon for a trip I don't think you'll miss by much when figuring what a trip will cost. Anything better than that's a bonus. However that old 440 will will pass anything on the highway and pull a transport truck if you had to. I wouldn't trade my 440 for anything. :)ThmbUp

You guys are not making me feel so great on  the gas suckered.  I Think I will work with it, but right now the weather  stinks.

Pushing a 8x11' frontal area down the highway at 60mph, you might get 7mpg, maybe 8mpg.   Don't sweat it though, even the new ones only get 7 or 8 mpg.   

It's a squared relationship between power required to push it, and the speed you are pushing it.   Double the speed takes 4 times the power needed to meet the drag force.  Basic drag relationship.  So if you're willing to drive a little slower you can enjoy the view out your window a lot more and also burn less fuel.
