Title: Replacing front leaf spring?
Post by: ibdilbert01 on May 25, 2020, 05:14 PM
Anyone replace the springs on the front suspension of their classic?   My 1970 D27 has started to sag so bad the tops of the wheels hit the floor boards.   Any direct spring replacement or should I just take it to a spring shop?

Spring shop is your best bet and it would be best to scale it in camping trim before you go so they know what they are building for. Leaf springs are not as expensive as a lot of people think.

I watched a video back around 2006 on how to re-arch them yourself... using a sledge hammer.
It actually worked, but the guy did it as part of his mechanical services and was a pro at it.

Never read about anyone replacing them and what direct replacements could be used.

At this point, I think I'd go to the shop.
