But you have something really nice to start with! Mine doesn't show as much wear from a distance either, and absolutely everything needs a little touch, buff, repair or replace.
that black plastic(I think) covers over rear wheels is cracked several places, don't know just how to fix it
well after very close inspection on hands and knees I found dryrot cracks in 4 out of 6 tires D:oH! $@!#@!
Mine looked good when I bought it, drove it home 100 miles and looked at them again and thought "my GOD I could have been killed" :( . There are cracks 1/8 inch wide.
the spare looked new so took it to be inflated the man told me it was made in 97 and all the others were older than that D:oH!
Looks like a nice rig!
I've read numerous stories about old rv tire failures. Anything older than 6-7 years is a accident waiting to happen. Even tires that look good! When they fail, they can destroy tanks, floors, etc.-assuming you didn't lose control of the motorhome.
Tire blowout? Gun it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkwOE1yKY5c
Holy Cow that's not a motor home It's a flip'n land yacht. All be it a beautiful land yacht D:oH! And people talk about tiny homes. :)rotflmao Nice looking rig. Well done.
thanks everyone, weather is stopping me from doing much today but its gonna get better
Hey Boohoo welcome to the club. You can sit there and wait with baited breath in panting anticipation of the weather to brake like the rest of us. Don't let those Blue Sky's and Sunshine fool you. It's $@!#@! cold out there. :)rotflmao
:)clap :)clap :)clap :)rotflmao :)rotflmao :)rotflmao
this evening I checked the generator, cranked in 2 seconds, and runs great...went inside and took a plug-in guage to every socket I could find and all read 120 , yea!!!! then checked air conditioners, both run great and get cold fast, then turned on fridge it took a while but good and cold and froze ice tray, checked 1 more thing and that was the built in blender( got to have those margaritas) and it works, only checked items that did not need water or lp gas
Why no LP gas Booohoo?
Quotethen turned on fridge it took a while but good and cold and froze ice tray
Not sure what your RV background is but just wanted to make sure you know that an RV 2 (LP/120VAC) or 3 (LP/12VDC/120VAC) way absorbtion fridge has to be level when using it or you risk the chemicals inside clogging it up and turning it into a paperweight.
thanks dave, yes I knew.....capndirk, was empty when we bought it and haven't got none yet
I had a lot of oil (old propane) in my system and decided to drop the propane tank and flush it out as well as sand blast it. I found that my BBQ tank hooks right up to the hose and regulator so have been toasty working inside this winter. :)
Just in case you want to test the other stuff.
thanks capndirk, I too have to repaint mine and your suggestion will be tried
well its been a while since I posted about any progress, 8 months ago I bought some flex seal liquid rubber and did a roof repair on my house and on a leaking utility trailer, I have put the trailer through hell and we have had a lot of heavy t storms and not one leak, so I'm gonna be the test pilot and redo my roof on the holiday rambler which does have a leak that I cannot find with a total coverage with flex seal liquid rubber, ill let you know how it goes and ill post pics as I go along. feedback is welcome W% W%
I want to know what the price if that is going to be!!!!!!!! I am betting you could replace the roof for less.
hi rick, it will take 3 gallons to do the roof at 90.00 a gal, with brushes and rollers and pans, less than $300.00 dollars, don't think a roof could be replaced for that :)rotflmao
I thought that stuff was more than that. I am sure getting pictures during would be tough but before and after would be great.
they make it in colors ie white, red, blue, etc. but in my opinion having used several colors the original black works best, and ill just paint it white, bty ace hardware sells it for $89.99 per gal
Cool project !
That roof is two solid sheets of aluminum with a seam down the center if it's like my Holiday Rambler. Just did mine this summer, took off the A/C units, vents, covers etc, cleaned all the penetrations and joint really well, and brushed on 2 part EDPM liquid rubber only on the seam and penetrations. I did not see a reason to put rubber coating over healthy aluminum unless it had a hole punched in it or was at the seam.
hi tmsnyder, after I got it home after buying it I noticed that it had hundreds of dime size dents in the roof, hail storm is my guess, and to be safe I'm gonna do the whole roof
My roof has a few tiny holes in it ..it is a metal roof ..I assume something landed on it like a limb or maybe the little holes are from pine tree straw staying on the roof for years ..lime I'm thinking the acid from the pine straw may eat the metal from staying there years and years and moisture from years of it left on the roof .that are minor ..I plan on using the black jack elastomeric roof sealer for mine ..I already used the caulk they have for it ..hubby just got breaks fixed so I can move it out n the field to do the roof coating so leaves don't get it when I apply it ..have yall ever used the flex shot caulk in the can ..I got some of that to seal around the trim on my front windows ..I have a slight water leak there ..do yall recommend that for that ? I also saw the have a flex seal rubber roof coating there too and clear spray on flex seal ..has anyone ever used these products and do they work any better than silicone caulk or does the rubber roof sealer work any better than the elastomeric roof coating ..what is the difference
I know a couple of people here have used the flex seal but I cannot speak for them but I can say stay as far from any silicone product as you possibly can!!!!!!!!!!!!
what might be the reason for your advise rick=just curious?
Use Eternabond tape on the holes, then coat with Elastomeric roof sealant. 2 or 3 coats. I wouldn't use a Flex Seal product for nothin....
Silicone is not really for RV's it does not stand up to the movement, expansion and contraction and worst of all, it does not adhere to the metal of fiberglass of the coaches for more than a year or two but anything you try to replace it with will not adhere due to the residual silicone left behind. And that stuff is impossible to get off. I have tried everything on the market designed to do it plus a bunch of stuff not designed for it. You will never get all of the residual silicone off the old surface. And if you figure you will just replace it with more silicone, that will not adhere to old silicone either. So, THAT is why I give that advice. Personally I use polyurethane caulk. It is pricey but you get what you pay for and I have had very good luck with it.
Terry has put up a couple posts about the importance of preparation for caulking and it is very good advice to follow, Just like painting, the prep work is everything.
good to know=thanks
And don't use "Black Jack" on an rv roof either. I've see it a ton over the years and it's just a mess.

are you talking about the black jack white siliconized elastomeric roof coating "Ultra Roof " or are you talking about another one of there products ? On the flex seal is was saying it was rubber .didn't know if that was different than silicone ?
hi yall, been real busy with a tornado that took down some trees and ripped the porch roof off my house and set it on the roof of my house, then had lots of 60 mph winds and heavy rains from hurricane Irma, but some good news, my flex seal roof does not have any leaks at all, the HR is as dry as can be :)clap :)clap replacing 3 fan belts today, and trying to decide if I need to hook up batt. cable that comes from duel batterys but is hanging loose up front near cranking batt
well todays progress....finished replacing 3 belts on 454...replaced air filter...replaced filter in side of air filter housing...cut large hole in fenderwell to gain access to master cylinder $@!#@! ...made panel to cover the large hole...replaced generator air filter...replaced cranking batt for 454...oh and got stung by hornet while changing batt, ...and to top the day off broke a rib while putting 3rd belt on... D:oH!
Yikes! I thought I had bad luck.
changed oil and filter on generator, ran it for 1 hour with air cond (2) running
