Help, Using new seals, can I effectively install and seal the timing cover to the oil pan with out dropping the oil pan?
Thanks
Philip

On a 454.......no problem. Use a little silicone on the corners of the rubber gasket. When I say a little that's what I mean. I can't begin to count the number of engines I have seen destroyed by people with tube of silicone.

Thanks Motopro, I got the thumbs up earlier and removed the cover. Pretty straight forward unlike the SBC. The lower part of the cover is the source of the oil leak from factory.
You say Silicone, not non hardening Form a gasket?
Thanks
Philip

Black or grey RTV sealant. Just a touch in the corner where the timing cover meets the pan. And I always use Permatex #3 sealant on the cover gaskets, and on the hoses too. Not a lot, just a thin layer.

Rick, Thanks for the advice. First I heard of sealing the hoses too. Good idea.

I use Loctite 518 on pretty much everything and never have issues. Very forgiving as it doesn't "skin"
