Title: John Deere Chasis/To buy or not to buy
Post by: Shfftr on May 07, 2016, 02:07 AM
I am brand new to this forum and I was hoping to get some advice. I have been looking at a Safari Serengeti on a John Deere Chassis and after searching here for parts availability I see that it appears almost impossible to get some parts. It seems rotors and calipers are next to impossible and I wonder what else may be hard or impossible to acquire. I noticed a few posts were people would have to replace the whole Dana rear end assembly to buy the  necessary brake parts. I realize the Ford engine and transmission parts should  not be a problem nor appliances and the generator as they are not chassis specific. I am sorry for running on but I hope I can get some sound advice before I venture into this. Thank you for any help in advance.

That is a really nice looking coach, I can't picture it being hard to get brake parts for a John Deere chassis but I am not an expert on the John Deere's. They are very popular and the chassis is used for many things so I am sure the parts are available. Dave is our parts location guy and he just got back home so he will probably catch up with this soon.

I am not sure about parts availability.  What I do know:

Service manual is available in our site store: http://www.classicwinnebagos.com/forum/index.php?action=store;cat=43 (http://www.classicwinnebagos.com/forum/index.php?action=store;cat=43)

The rights and parts that where still available were initially bought by IH then sold to Freightliner who now supports this JD chassis.  Mixture of Ford and custom parts.
Parts book: http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/pdfs/PC2109.pdf (http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/pdfs/PC2109.pdf)

Mill Supply Parts Book: https://www.millsupply.com/pdf/stepvan/SV15.pdf (https://www.millsupply.com/pdf/stepvan/SV15.pdf)
Mill Supply carries some JD parts.  You would have to contact them with specific questions.  They are a good source for GM P30, JD/Oskosh, and Ford chassis parts.

Thank you for the information Dave. I will check out these sights and go from there, just didn't want to get into something I would have to fabricate parts or replace old systems with new ones rather than replace a part.

Here is another place I would try also.  The term Oshkosh is used frequently.
