Title: any Campgrounds near Rock Tavern/Newburgh,NY. open?
Post by: Bear on March 03, 2012, 01:12 PM
Hi,
I went to reserve 2 nights at the Windings Hills Campground, but they don't open until May 1st. Is that common? is there any other campgrounds neat Montgomery, Rock Tavern, or Newburgh, NY? it can up to30 or 40 miles away from these locations. Thanks for any help you all may have.

Thanks Dave, I will make some more calls Monday. Planning out a trip to see the Stars of American Chopper, have them all but Micheal confirmed for a visit.

We've stayed at Black Bear Campground, and its a VERY nice campground, although it is probably seasonal as well.  Almost all the campgrounds in the northeast are seasonal.  You could try Toye Recreation in Sussex/Vernon New Jersey while you are at it, they used to be open year round, but they closed a lot of the sites by town ordinance for the winter (They weren't zoned for year round residency, so the residents had to leave...but knowing the Toyes, they'll still let temporary campers in at any time of the year).  They may be able to let you camp there for a few days or so.  Its a nice enough campground, sort of shabby, but not too far from Newburgh.  Sussex/Vernon NJ is right over the border from Warwick NY and Orange County, where OCC resides.  Its right off of 94 and 17 and 17A, which all lead to Newburgh, or get close to it.
