Title: M500 Dana 70HD and front axle to GM hub swap?
Post by: 1975Custom on October 25, 2019, 08:19 AM
Dana 70HD is essentially a dana 80 with a 70 center from what I gather on 4x4 pages.

I have also found that GM Corporate 14 bolt hubs share the same spindle as the Dana 70HD.

Is this also true for my front axle if I use hubs of the same era?

The 5x8 lugs are cool but I can no longer get any wear parts like dics and drums.

I also can not get Alcoa wheels.

With a 8x6.5 lug pattern, I can get 20+" Alcoas, better tires, and disc conversion brakes.

Thanks for your help.

See my reply in reference to Dave on your other post above but in reference to the Dana 80 and Dana 70 comparison I am not so sure about that. I have a Dana 80 in my Dodge dually and it is HUGE! It is much bigger than a 70 so I can't see where there is a comparison.

I agree. The thing that the 70HD shares with the Dana 80 is that it uses 4" tubes instead of the standard 3.5" tubes on a regular Dana70.

Regardless, the spindle inserts are the same for all model 70.

Onward to finding axle shafts!
