Classic Winnebagos & Vintage RVs

Hello all! It's been a really long time and now that's all my other projects are coming to an end I'm looking to get back into making my Indian more solid. My biggest concern are the brakes as they're either on or off there's no in between. It's been that way since I bought it and knew that some work needed to be done. To get me started again on this can anyone direct me or send any diagrams of the brakes. I know there could be lots of Troubleshooting that is needed with lots of parts from head to toe. Thanks!

1973 was a change over year.
Do you have front drum brakes (M-375 (http://dave78chieftain.com/M375Late.html)) or
front disc brakes (M-400 (http://dave78chieftain.com/M400_73-75-RM350.html))

Opp's, just saw you have a 440 which is most likely a M-400 however, in 1973/74

The VIN decoded to RM-350 (M-400) or
RM-400 (M-500 (http://dave78chieftain.com/M500_73-75-RM400.html)).
In 75 Dodge changed RM-350 to M-400 and RM-400 to M400 (retroactive back to 73)

With that said, to help id it,
the RM-350 (M-400) has 17.5" 8 lug wheels
the RM-400 (M-500) has 19.5" 5 lug wheels

I have 5 lugs

That's a 19.5" tire on a 5 lug wheel which was originally called a RM400 and rebranded to M-500. That's the confusion with years 73-74

RM300 is the same as M300
RM350 is the same as M400
RM400 is the same as M500

The 1974-75 Service Manual Supplement stated:

QuoteThe 1973 and 1974 model designations RM300, RM350 and RM400 have been redesignated as M300, M400 and M500 respectively for 1975. Refer to RM300, RM350 and RM400 illustrations and procedures in the 1973 Motor Home Service manual for information not contained in this supplement.

For your rig, you may find chassis parts listed under either RM400 or M500  (not to be confused with M400) so be careful.
