Off to surgery today to correct a detached retina. Had cataract surgery 2 years ago and my right eye is loosing vision quickly. About 10 percent left right now, only the far right has vision. At least I have some side vision left. The prognoses for stopping the loss is good but the chance of gaining any vision is not.
I will be out of town for at least a week and on a laptop with who knows what service.
Wishing you the best - Dave
Let us know how it goes..
I certainly hope and pray that, not only will the loss be stopped, but that any restorative measures are successful.
Wishing you a successful surgery and speed recovery.
Went well, 2 hrs. Not sore...yet..Doc seemed happy
We're rooting for you. Keep us posted.
Let us know how you make out. We're pulling for you. :)ThmbUp
Thinking good thoughts your way. Joan
Showered this morning, breakfast and just now a nice walk. Pretty sore, a wee bit of bruising but in the sun I can see my shadow and my feet etc! There is hope. Next Wed is doc appt then home I hope. Hotel life is getting old and expensive :P
Good to hear! There IS... no place like home.
With reading glasses on I can see my hand in very good detail from 2-3 in away!!! This has got to be a good thing :D
Well yeah had everyone on he edge of their seats. I could here a collective sigh of relief when you posted. Looking good. Keep us posted.
Glad to hear all is well and sounds like getting better too.
Alright! Patti and I were keeping you in our thoughts. You be eagle-eyed again before you know it!
Kev
Needed to get out for a bit, did a drive-through car wash and found a BK for lunch Sitting there munching, looking through my re-furbished eye...I can see people walking on the sidewalk, I can see cars passing! Not yet clear but I CAN SEE!! I lost it right here, used up a few napkins before I left BK. I believe all prayers are answered, sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Thank you Lord.
Way to go Don. Just go easy, you can't do everything in one day. Still sending good thoughts your way. Joan
Good news, keep improving.
I'm glad things are getting better. With those new eagle eyes you may be able to spot the good looking ones from 2 blocks away. .
hope you have a speedy recovery.
Getting excited, doc visit tomorrow morning. Every day the vision improves a tiny bit. A week ago this eye had no vision. Baby steps..
My stepdad had the same thing done. His sight improved as well, he drives Trucks to Ohio and back to NY.
Good to hear your getting better!
Nice to hear your vision is improving. :)clap
One day at a time.
Eye am home!
Got a great checkup from the doc. The next 3 months will show what's left. Right now eye can see the E on the eye chart!
Excellent... I can't make out the E... It looks like a B or an 8.
Well, here we go again. I must report for surgery tomorrow morning in Scottsdale. The first method has failed, this time a different techique will be used. Keep those thoughts coming!!
We hear you, prayers your way.
JD
You got it!
Kev and Patti
Thinking of you. Hope 2nd times a charm.
oh no, what happened, I thought you were getting better.
Lots of good vibes coming your way for a successful surgery
Man the hole gang is pulling for ya. :)ThmbUp
Good thoughts and prayers your way.
About 12:15pm today my eye began to lose vision. I immediately called the emergency number and drove to meet the on call doc. The retina has begun to detach again, this time we'll use the silicon oil method...and continue to pray.
I was progressing but last night at bed time I saw some small flashes in that eye, not a good thing. Floaters have been forming too, another bad sign.
With the oil in place, the retina should stabilize. The main negative for oil is the requirement for a second surgery (usually) to replace it with watery fluid.
Hang in there yeah got all of us on the edge of our seats pulling and praying for ya. Stiff upper lip and all that stuff.
I don't know much about these medical things but, we're glad you still have options.
Keeping an eye on you!
Out of surgery, ouchie but the maqic pills are working. ???
I think I see what you're saying...
Lol, and I thought my pun was bad...
Groan...Not from the surgery D:oH!
Had a pretty good night, ready for hotel breakfast then off to my day.
2nd post op checkup today. The retina is fully attached and once again I can read the large E on the chart and walk for a while using only the weak eye. Next check is the 14th.
Glad your checkup went well, Keeping you in my prayers hoping the next check up goes just as well.
Keepin' fingers crossed.. :)
Adapt, improvise, overcome.
Long ago I adopted this from Heartbreak Ridge.
Since my eyesight has been compromised, it has served me well. This morning I drove my 28' class A into town, parked in the supermarket lot and returned home to it's parking spot. Even got it right where it was within an inch or two side to side, right on front to rear!!
WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to here you are doing better and have improved vision. Good thoughts to you!
Awesome! :) :)ThmbUp
Nice!
I am currently camping with a guy that just had the retina reattachment operation. He says they pumped air (or some kind of gas) into the eyeball to press the retina back in place. The air bubble has just about been absorbed and he can see better now, too. It is amazing what they can do these days. Good luck with your next checkup. It just gets better and better!
Yes Dan, that's what was done the first time, now it's silicone oil.
2 weeks post op. Occasional discomfort from the buckle but not too bad. Sight is a bit better each day and op eye's vision is slowly trying to line up with the good eye. Hopefully the double vision will soon be gone, no guarantees but life's like that. the pupil is starting to return to normal size, that may never happen but..
Now when I say better sight, I mean better than zero. I can read QWERTY from a foot away with enough light.
Because I'm looking through silicone oil things are a bit off. The oil should go eventually but once again, no guarantees.
Baby steps...
Well good stuff, not out of the woods yet but you realize the hole gang out here is pulling for ya that all comes out perfect.
My 3 week post op. went very well, back in 6 weeks..then?
Every day things improve just a wee bit. My eye will not regain normal vision while the oil is still in it but depth perception is a bit better each day too. I do have some peripheral vision.
I and my doctors are very pleased.
On the 23rd I am heading out for a local campout at Deadhorse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. A bunch of us are having our yearly 4x4 gathering..Zukapalooza! Wheeling should be a nice challenge and good therapy!

Shoulda bought a Jeep...its the gods punishing you for driving a Suzuki...lmao!!!
Hope you are feeling better soon Don, and regain full eyesight!
Kev
I did ask the doc, said Ok.
Kev, see you on the trail. My little Suzi just may surprize you.
Thanks for the well wishes!
Glad your steadily recovering. Wore the engine out in my old Geo Tracker. Loved that car. Enjoy your trip.
Dave
Had a setback early last week but all's well now. Went in today and my eye is now 20/100! Long ways from 20/infinity, AKA ZERO vision.
That eye measured 20/50 for years before the cataract got it.
FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)clap
Nice!
That's great! Glad to hear it's going well. :)ThmbUp Eye problems are pretty scary.
Barbie Tracker for anyone that's looking, since you're talking about them. Looks pretty clean for a Michigan Tracker. Anything still showing metal looks clean for a Michigan Tracker.
