So after we crashed our beloved 1986 Chieftain 27 last year, I set out to find a replacement. In October, I found a 1986 Cheiftain 33.  It was in Oregon, so I took my then-18 daughter along for company in my little Honda, which we drove to Oregon and towed home beside the "new" Winnie.

A while back it came to my attention that the deliberately-terrible 80's Sci-Fi spoof "Space Balls" (Rick Moranis, John Candy, Gene Wilder. . .) uses a Chieftain with wings and rockets as a space ship.  Well, a few days ago, a conversation with a movie-buff friend led me to do a little more research to find out EXACTLY what model Chieftain they used. . .

It turns out the Space Balls Winnebago is a 1986 Chieftain 33, just like our new one!

Here's a pic with some info:

And here it is in action:

Now I need to get "EAGLE 5" license plates and an "I heart Uranus" bumper sticker.  That shouldn't be too hard.

The wings are gonna be a little tricker. . .
