One space big enough and he nailed it. You have to wonder if he really planned to do that? There is no hill steep enough to build that kind of speed short of a very steep mile long one so he had to be flat on the gas. That dude walking around the corner was damn lucky to look up!

Dang!  Talk about impatient!  The guy was in an RV!  He missed the ferry...so big deal!  He could have waited in the parking lot in the RV for the next ferry, instead of killing himself and almost killing other folks.

After reading the article with eyewitness reports, it appeared that he was trying to stop the rig long before he got to the loading ramp. It appears that the motorhome was at full throttle. Maybe he should have shut off the engine? Tragic outcome.

Or put it in neutral! He was on the wrong side of the road so he had a clear shot down the road. It is possible he thought he had his foot solid on the brakes and it was on the gas instead, It happens all the time. Especially in areas where you have high concentrations of elderly drivers who probably should not be driving anymore. We have a community near me where they have armored the area between the parking and the store fronts in all areas where cars can get to the buildings because they have been driven into so many times.
