You're a troublemaker Terry. I dont have an answer either. Figured some of the Westies would chime in.

I won't travel in California...but the rest of the Western states like Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico have tons of BLM lands and National Forests where you can camp for free or nearly free.  Most don't have utilities, but some have water, and some even have a dump station.

For a variety of reasons, CA has far fewer camping options then the other western states. The only close free camping options I was able to turn up in the Sacramento area would probably only be good for a couple of days, and are a little ways away. They are:

Camping World in Rocklin
RedHawk Casino in Placerville
The following are full hookup Rv parks with sites around 20 a night in the Sacramento area:

Cal Expo
Sherwood Harbor
Still an Rv Park

Additionally, El Camino Mobile Home Park offers Rv sites in the same range.

Boondockers Welcome is a site that list private property where people can park with prior arrangements (like couch surfing for RVs). If you ar open that, I saw several in the Sacramento area
