Title: Well, I have figured out in 3 days I am here to stay!
Post by: HVACguy on March 06, 2017, 09:13 AM
After flying to New Mexico March 1st to pick up dads 89  warrior to drive it 1500 miles to TN, we got stuck in Clayton NM with overheating issues, day 3 on road awning comes loose at 65 mph,( by Gods grace didnt destroy it!). Made it to Enid, Oklahoma last night to discover fuel leaking from some type of canister on rail under exterior drivers seat. So will deal with that today and get on the road again. For my first ever RV, I think this would have broken some people, but I am thrilled and cant wait to get this baby home and go through it! The inside is very nice, and so far everything works, only thing I havent figured out is freshvwater system, we have been staying in parks each night and using their facilities. Anyway I will post pics of adventure when we make it home.....more to come!

You most likely would not want to use the freshwater system until it is sanitized anyway so just as well. Fuel leak sounds like either fuel filter or emissions canister, tough without pictures and better description. Sounds like you will have some work to do when you get home but you have the determination to get it done.

I remember those first prayerful thousand mile trips with COMPLETELY unfamiliar rigs!!! ALWAYS exciting! :)clap

AND usually a great learning experience!!! Bet you'll be considering backups to the security of your canopy now, jus as I have,.... learning and exploring the limits and needs of your cooling system (been there too  :-[ ), and discovering all kinds of "aging" replacement needs!(betting on a fuel filter myself here W% )

Yup! Seems about right to me too!!!

Fixed fuel leak, it was some type of reserve canister ,according to guy at NAPA, for whwn going up hills or brief WOT, of course it is obsolete and discontinued. Turns out it had a bad oring, its about the size of a small oil filter. Prowled the interweb, and got advice to buy a canister fuel filter for an 86 F150 for the oring alone ( as NAPA couldnt match it) by golly it worked!

Now we are still in Enid,OK parked in a Walmart because of 45 MPH WIND!!  LOL i cant seem to catch a break on leaving a location at adecent time. Oh well better safe than sorry.

NAPA ain't what it used to be. Most of them are no better than the big box stores. I remember a time when there was an ASE certification for parts couter specialists. Don't really know what was involved in it but it required you to read the manuals and know how to cross different years for what you were looking for. Not just type a year into a computer and have it say, "nope, we do not have it". Or even better in most of my cases, " That engine is not available in that vehicle" I always love that one with my big block Jeeps. That's when you drag the clerk outside and open the hood and ask, " Does that look like a 4.0L engine?"

GOOD TIMES!  Made it to Springdale, Arkansas and now shelter again on side of wal mart, tornado 20 miles south, and about to be pounded by what looks to be about 20 minutes of hell. Close enough to the doors to run in(i hope) in the event an alert or siren goes off. I think I am being tested to the extremes on my first ever RV trip!!!

HOLY CRAP! Now that's an adventure you won't forget. I'll make for some great campfire stories. It's got all us beat. I have to agree with you Rick. Usually when I go to N.A.P.A. I have to ask for the old us guy there. That's when all the magic happens and all the young guys gather around and all you here is I DIDN'T NO THAT.  D:oH! Frustrating but fun.

Goodluck!

I purchased mine a year ago. Figured it needed a few thousand dollars in repair. I was wrong. Everything, absolutely everything needs a touch, a rub, a clean, a refurbish, or replacement. Right now, plenty of unexpected underlying electrical issues, but keep at it! Sounds like you have the wherewithal to get it finished.

Made it home! :)ThmbUp :)ThmbUp :)ThmbUp  After the first 3 days, and all the drama, last 2 days were uneventful and smooth sailing. I got broken in big time and survived! I'm sure theres alot more to come, but I'm also sure the good will outweigh the bad, besides I enjoy fixing, tinkering with ( most) things. I hope ya'll are ready, cause I'm sure I will have plenty of questions about repair/maintenance LOL. I have 6 more days before I gotta go back to work, so my first order is as much sealing as possible, as in Tennessee it rains a whole helluva lot more than New Mexico. First rain we hit ( which was a soaker, tornado warnings etc.) I had a drip from overhead AC unit. We did go over the whole roof once with sealer before we left NM, and I am positive that was a good idea. So back on the roof tomorrow with some more. Anyway I wont get into that in this thread. Have a great day/night!

You will need to start a new thread for the leaks but I wanted to point out real quick here since you will see it first that there is a gasket under the AC unit and that will be your leak along with the fact that the roof has probably sagged in there so the water pools around the AC unit. So to seal it you will need a gasket which is usually available at RV places.

Might want to just tarp it until you are ready for that.
