Respectfully, OZ, I don't think this topic was intended to inform people of RV's for sale (a la TJ's List). I think it's supposed to be more of a fun thread... It's a nice change of pace from the common "My blah blah took a dump" type posts if I don't say!

It just so happens that all the RVs posted so far have been for sale, in one capacity, or another. The fact that it's posted in "RVs and Items For Sale" just adds to the confusion. It should've been posted in "General Discussion."

I see what you're saying.  Wasn't really sure what it was since the first one posted was for sale with the link and it was posted on the RVs FOR SALE... board.  I moved it to the general board.

Here's a video of an RV fire.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zSjZVlnKHg
About halfway though, the propane tank begins venting just as it is designed to and the propane is simply burned off.  In a larger fire, (think train wreck or storage facility) the propane may boil too quickly to be vented off and you end up with a BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion).  Thank goodness that doesn't happen often.  Rick
Title: Re: Post your "Really Ruff Winnebago and Vintage RV's" here....
Post by: Rickf1985 on February 14, 2016, 11:56 AM
I have never seen an RV tank or a Propane powered vehicle tank blow. They just vent. Have been on many vehicle fires. Tires, on the the other hand do blow!

And by the way, gasoline tanks don't blow up either. They just leak out and get hotter and hotter. Movies are great for that one.

A reminder to keep your extinguisher up-to-date. I carry two in all my vehicles; a CO2 for my stuff that might be burning and a dry chemical for other people's stuff  ;)

For anyone who travels with there refrigerator operating on propane & forgets to turn off the fridge before refueling This is a very likely scenario as just fumes from filling can ignite from fridge flame Also applys to hot water tanks pilot flame oven or stove top even furnace  flame . The safest way to travel is with main propane valve closed  There is also the probability of a vibration created leak in propane or gasoline  Before fueling take a look around . Once the fire starts if you don't lose it all you will be very lucky !

Something to consider.

We see so many of these in fields, next to the home or barn, in a state of someone working on them but maybe untouched for a year or three.  I would like to think that many people did not want to let go because the beasts history is that it was an accomplishment that resulted in dad driving and setting up camp, mom fixing a meal, and the kid and pup being mesmerized by it all.  It's hard to let go of such magnificent peace.

They are/were one of the best definitions of America. Road trip.  And in those days, it was just gas.

I'm in a melancholy mood tonight.   :)   so, my favorite quote.

“You can’t get so hung up on where you’d rather be, that you forget to make the most of where you are.”

"D" meant it was a Dodge chassis.  "18" "19" 20, 22, 23,24... is the length in feet.
The early models were "F" for Ford chassis.  17' & 18'  F17 & F18

I am currently on the lookout for a later Bluebird conversion or Barth. Or even a bus conversion. But like most of us on here there is that one little thing called MONEY!

I saw a Barth for sale the last two years at the Windgap Bluegrass festival in PA, not too far from you, you are in NJ?  If you're serious I'm sure you could track the guy down, it's not a very big community.

"D" meant it was a Dodge chassis.  "18" "19" 20, 22, 23,24... is the length in feet.
The early models were "F" for Ford chassis.  17' & 18'  F17 & F18

Thanks OZ.

Yes Capn, the D-18 is the 18 footer. I'd like to put a 440 in one with hot exhaust and maybe a gear vendor. They only came with itsy bitsy 318's.

So did the "native american" designations also pertain to the same vehicles?  Like a D18 brave or a D20 Brave?

Post by: legomybago on October 13, 2017, 11:16 AM
Yea the mascots....Somewhere out there is schematic showing the differences between Indian, Brave, Warrior, Chieftain etc. The early model Indians came with the 413ci, vs. Brave's had the 440 or 318ci, but option's also changed with size/length and drivetrain's too. So I really didn't answer your question? Kinda like a politician?  ???

Title: Re: Post your "Really Ruff Winnebago and Vintage RV's" here....
Post by: uglydukwling on November 06, 2017, 08:48 AM
Your mention of "changing a tire" reminded me of a motor home (can't remember the make) that I looked at but didn't buy. The spare tire was slung under the back, pickup truck style. The problem was that a trailer hitch had been installed with the spare in place, and there was no way to get the spare off.

LOL!  Don't laugh.  Some of the hippy "kids" out here in Renfaire land live in squalor just like that, and worse.  It doesn't take any money to keep one's house clean and tidy.
